Comic Potential
Wednesday 8th May 2019

Comic Potential by Alan Ayckbourn
Presented by Southend Drama Society

A hilarious satire on television, human follies, bad actors and romantic love. Set in the foreseeable future, where everything has changed, except human nature. Androids (Actoids) have replaced human actors in television dramas and soaps.
JC-F31-333 a (“faulty” actoid) and Adam Trainsmith (an idealistic young writer) go on the run, in this weirdly amusing take on the Pygmalion myth. Can JC-F31-333 (Jacie) really feel love? Will she master slapstick humour and get the timing right for the custard pie gag?

Under the threat of her being scrapped and melted down, will their fledgling relationship have a “happy ever-after” ending?
