Southend art club was established in 1929 by a group of enthusiasts enjoying and sharing their love of art with each other. The club started by a different name and consisted of seven members, Walter Beecroft being one of the founder members. The numbers increased slowly through 1930. At that time there were 30000 residents in Southend.
