ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 32nd Southend Arts Council AGM took place at the Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend on Sea on Monday 7th June 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

The mayor of Southend Cllr Ann Holland was presiding as our secretary with a busy agenda to discuss, speakers were Steve McCartney, Chairman - Florrie Holland,

Steve McCartney (Drama) talked about how the Dixon had greatly assisted the groups who had been subsidsed to perform in that space.  Jim Carter mentioned how professional staff had been at the theatre, extending the groups every possible courtesy.                                     

Mary Porter (Music) spoke about the decline in audience attendance at the musical events in the town in the past year.

Adrian Green (Written Word)  spoke about the latest Southend Poetry group book soon to go on general sale, as well as introducing the committee to Simon Woodward from Writers Anonymous.

Gina Warner (Visual Arts) mentioned how successful this years Visual Arts exhibition with  a large number of exhbiits.

Cllr Holland spoke about her charity for 2010/11. as well as Clare Cook the Community Engagement Co-ordinator for University of Essex

She offered a reduction in selected courses on their summer course programme at Southend, as well as offering to host the 2010 Open Day on Sunday 5th September at Clifftown Studios, Nelson Strreet. 

The executive committee thanked her for the kind gesture.

The Mayor spoke about how she came to choose Arts Council as one of her 2010/11 charities and what she expected of our members in that role.

The meeting was adjourned at 9.00 p.m.
