Live Music returns to Southend
The series of chamber music concerts promoted by Southend Borough Council restarts in October, with a wide range of 8 concerts performed by internationally acclaimed professional musicians.
The series starts on Friday 15th October, 8pm, when the vocal ensemble Apollo 5 will give a performance at the Plaza Centre (Southend Christian Fellowship Centre), Southchurch Road, Southend on Sea. Praised for their powerful singing and distinctive sound, the award-winning British vocal ensemble Apollo5 proves how dynamic only five voices can be. With such small forces they are able to showcase each individual voice while still achieving their critically acclaimed blend. Whether performing jazz, pop, classical or even early sacred music, they are known for their exceptional communication with audiences, frequently performing from memory.
The programme on 15th October, ‘Where All Roses Go’ marks the 10th anniversary of Apollo5, reflecting the ensemble’s journey from its inception, as well as its creative work through 2020. The programme includes a diverse collection of choral music spanning 500 years, from some of the earliest known polyphonic writing through to new compositions written especially for Apollo5. The performance will include music by William Byrd, Emily Dickens, Eric Whitacre, Gerald Finzi and Michael McGlynn.
Tickets are priced £10 and can be booked online at www.southend.gov.uk/concerts or by phone 01702 215011 bookings Monday – Friday during office hours. There will also be some tickets available to purchase on the night.
